Roses and Ruffles - Featured Vendor

For this Favourite Things Feature we talked with the lovely Jennifer from Roses and Ruffles - supplier of fabulous backdrops for newborn photography.  There is a SPECIAL OFFER from Roses and Ruffles for our Facebook fans (see below!)

Roses and Ruffles has the best variety of gorgeous fabric backdrops specifically sourced for newborn photographers.  I find it so hard to select only a few backdrops to order each time and always end up ordering a huge stash!  I love that each fabric has been tested by Jennifer, so that I know that it is going to work perfectly during my client sessions.  You will find that she also has a range of flokati rugs and wraps - so it really is a one-stop shop!  If you have not already checked out her page ... what are you waiting for!!  Read my "interview" with Jennifer below.

A SPECIAL OFFER FOR FANS!!!!

In a generous offer for Facebook fans of both Rebecca Connolly Photography and Roses and Ruffles, Jennifer has provided a discount code for use in her store.  Just enter the code "Rebecca15" to receive 15% discount off your order.  The code is valid for the next 10 days.  We are trusting that you will "like" both of our Facebook pages (in case you have not already!) before you use the code.  Also, I would love it if you could leave a comment here on my blog or my Facebook page - thanks!

Now ....... the interview:-

Q.  When did you start Roses and Ruffles and what prompted you to open the store?

I started up Roses and Ruffles two years ago and it’s been a whirlwind ever since!  I started my business purely out of the love for fabric and the need to find backdrops that photograph beautifully.  I had a difficult time finding newborn backdrops at local fabric shops that not only photograph well, but also lay nice without wrinkling.  I’m proud to be the first unfinished fabric backdrop shop for newborn photographers!  I’ve met so many amazing and talented photographers through this journey and the friendships I’ve formed from this business have been the biggest blessing.

Q.  What do you look for when selecting new fabrics for your shop?

I will only carry backdrops in my shop that I use myself and love!   Some fabrics never make it to the shop because they don’t make the cut (instead they’re donated to a local school for projects).  I look for fabrics that have a good amount of stretch, don’t wrinkle easily, and photograph beautifully.

Q.  Are you drawn to certain colours or tones over others for backdrops?

I’m a sucker for a gorgeous yellow or pink!  I also love neutrals and my collection of browns and beiges have taken over my studio!

Q.  Out of all of the backdrops in your store at the moment, do you have a favourite one?

I absolutely LOVE the Jack knit backdrops because they’re thick and reversible.  I also love the Chaunva backdrops which have such a beautiful texture and pattern (it has quickly become one of my client’s first choices when they come to my studio and see my backdrop selection).

Q.  We want to get to know you, so which are you:-  Day/Night, Jeans/Skirt,  White/Black, Tea/Coffee, Cat/Dog, Sun/Moon, Beach/Forest, Indoor/Outdoor, Books/Movies, Walking/Swimming, Sweet/Sour

Night – Definitely a night owl, I tend to get all my energy when my daughter goes down for bed
Jeans – I love to be comfy
Black -  It’s slimming, right?
Coffee – Totally addicted to my morning cup
Dog – I have a 6 year old goofy Labrador named Bailey who is our fur child
Sun – Nothing better than getting some natural vitamin D!
Beach – I could watch waves crashing all day
Outdoor – I love hiking and doing things in nature
Books – My attention span is too short for movies (I tend to get bored easily).
Walking – I take my sweet pup and 2 year old daughter for a walk every morning
Sweet – I looooove ice cream

Pale colors and soft backdrops gives a heavenly look to baby photography:) I have developed an interest to do new born photography, can you tell me how you select your backdrops? Is it the choice of colors or cloth?
