North Sydney Newborn Photography ~ Theo

I was so excited to meet baby Theo. He was a little bit older than the newborn babies I normally photograph, but we decided to give it a go as his mum really wanted to have some images to capture his little baby features.  We started the session with some cute awake shots, then I put baby Theo into his mum's arms and he snuggled in and drifted off to sleep.  I am so happy that I can give these newborn images to his parents to look back on as Theo grows up.

Now ....... the interview:-

Q.  When did you start Roses and Ruffles and what prompted you to open the store?

I started up Roses and Ruffles two years ago and it’s been a whirlwind ever since!  I started my business purely out of the love for fabric and the need to find backdrops that photograph beautifully.  I had a difficult time finding newborn backdrops at local fabric shops that not only photograph well, but also lay nice without wrinkling.  I’m proud to be the first unfinished fabric backdrop shop for newborn photographers!  I’ve met so many amazing and talented photographers through this journey and the friendships I’ve formed from this business have been the biggest blessing.

Q.  What do you look for when selecting new fabrics for your shop?

I will only carry backdrops in my shop that I use myself and love!   Some fabrics never make it to the shop because they don’t make the cut (instead they’re donated to a local school for projects).  I look for fabrics that have a good amount of stretch, don’t wrinkle easily, and photograph beautifully.

Q.  Are you drawn to certain colours or tones over others for backdrops?

I’m a sucker for a gorgeous yellow or pink!  I also love neutrals and my collection of browns and beiges have taken over my studio!

Q.  Out of all of the backdrops in your store at the moment, do you have a favourite one?

I absolutely LOVE the Jack knit backdrops because they’re thick and reversible.  I also love the Chaunva backdrops which have such a beautiful texture and pattern (it has quickly become one of my client’s first choices when they come to my studio and see my backdrop selection).

Q.  We want to get to know you, so which are you:-  Day/Night, Jeans/Skirt,  White/Black, Tea/Coffee, Cat/Dog, Sun/Moon, Beach/Forest, Indoor/Outdoor, Books/Movies, Walking/Swimming, Sweet/Sour

Night – Definitely a night owl, I tend to get all my energy when my daughter goes down for bed
Jeans – I love to be comfy
Black -  It’s slimming, right?
Coffee – Totally addicted to my morning cup
Dog – I have a 6 year old goofy Labrador named Bailey who is our fur child
Sun – Nothing better than getting some natural vitamin D!
Beach – I could watch waves crashing all day
Outdoor – I love hiking and doing things in nature
Books – My attention span is too short for movies (I tend to get bored easily).
Walking – I take my sweet pup and 2 year old daughter for a walk every morning
Sweet – I looooove ice cream

North Sydney Newborn Photography | Emilia ~ 8 days old

Emilia's parents were referred to me by one of my past newborn photography clients.  I really love and appreciate client referrals - my aim is to give each and every client a full gallery of images of their newborn baby that they absolutely love and treasure  So, if a client refers me to their friend, then I know that I have achieved this aim.

This beautiful newborn baby girl was a dream to photograph.  As soon as I saw Emilia, I knew that her set-ups needed to be all girly and pretty to match her dainty little features.  Lucky me, I had a bunch of new fabrics, wraps and props that were soft, whimsical and just so pretty!  Emilia slept like a dream and I was able to capture all of her little features.  I just love how she is awake and looking at the camera during her photos with her mum!  With so many lovely images of their gorgeous newborn baby girl,  I was so happy that Emilia's parents decided to order my large Album as well as all the digitals from the session.
